The Fire Opá
We are currently in the process of building our Opá. This will be a ceremonial space for the community, around the fire where we can gather and honour the great spirit, nature and one another. The Opá is being built using blue gum and pine from the land and the roof is being created with pine planks.
The roof is a reciprocal roof design where each pole rests on the other, having no central support. It was tricky but worked out beautifully.
The entire building is built from the wood harvested on the land, cut into planks with our new sawmill.
The Fire Opá holds around 33 people sitting in a circle around the central fire. This will be the space in which we will hold ceremonies in future, designed with the memory of Sunmoon House and the ceremonial space Nixiwaka built there.
